Join us for this family package that includes camping, lunches and whole bunch of fun. Instructor Joe Youcha has been leading boat builds for families, non-profits and groups for longer than anyone can remember. He literally wrote the book on it. Now we have a new design for a whole new generation of families to build on a vacation in Maine. We’re planning on building a newly re-discovered Joel White designed 7′-6″ skiff.  It seems like a good small skiff for kids, as well as a decent tender. It will surely be more memorable than overpriced boardwalk pizza and airbrushed t-shirts. After a day in the shop building, the waterfront is open to play, and then wind down at the communal fire ring.

From Joe: “Twenty-five years ago, just before launching the boat he built as part of the first Family Boat Building weekend during the 1998 WoodenBoat Show in St, Michaels, MD, a kid put a stuffed red dragon on its bow. The kid with the dragon is now married and a college professor. The boat’s long gone, but his dad says “Lots of kids caught their first fish from that tiny boat.” Building those types of experiences and memories is what it’s all about.

We’re not going to be building over 35 boats in a weekend, like in 1998, but if you want to be one of the 5 families building a boat over the course of a week in Brooklin this summer, we encourage you to sign up.”
