This is a six-day class ending Saturday.
The Shelburne dory is a straight sided bank dory with a 15′ bottom and nearly 20′ LOA. This type is very similar to those built at Lowell’s Boat Shop in Massachusetts with a few subtle differences. We will loft as we go creating the individual parts directly from the plans and planking by eye to create a complete dory ready for launch on Saturday morning. This is a perfect class for the beginner or intermediate builder. The plans for construction were drawn by the instructor as part of a living history project recording the building process of Milford Buchanan in Shelburne, Nova Scotia. The project, undertaken by the Dory Heritage Project, has resulted in a book “Building the Shelburne Dory” which will be available to students during the class.
