Messing about in Boats

This is a five-day class ending Friday

YouTube personality Roger Barnes has captivated a lot of us with his wonderful videos extoling the virtues of simply getting out in small boats and enjoying yourself.  Roger will be making a trip to the states in 2025 and we were fortunate enough to convince him to come and spend a week with us at the school.

While the exact details of the course have not been fully worked out, the basic structure would be a combination of small talks in the morning with Roger, followed by some sailing in the afternoons, weather permitting.  To help make this even more special, we are working with local small boat groups and businesses to try and bring in additional boats and helping hands.  The idea is to have a mini small boat festival with the opportunity to talk about and sail a variety of boats.

This is NOT a learn to sail class.  Students should have a solid understanding of basic small boat handling skills and be able to enter and exit small boats on a beach as well as a floating dock.  These types of open boats can be wet and do capsize from time to time.  Students should be aware of this and be able to handle themselves accordingly.

This promises to be a once in a lifetime experience, but if you are unable to attend the class, we are working with Roger to host a free talk one evening that week for the public.  Please check back on this site for more information.
